Roblox is not one game - it is thousands of them, made by other users. Here is how the chat, spending and friend systems work, and what to check first.
Parents often describe Roblox as "the blocky game". It is closer to a platform: an enormous library of experiences created by other users, each with its own rules, chat and spending.
Chat is the part that matters
Text chat is filtered by age, but filters are not perfect and conversations frequently move to Discord or another app. The most useful setting is not a blanket ban - it is limiting who can message and invite your child, and agreeing that new contacts get mentioned at home.

A five-minute check
Open the account settings together, look at who can chat and invite, confirm the age on the account is correct, and remove any stored payment method. Doing this with your child rather than to them tends to keep the conversation open.
